National History
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The first public act performed by the Delta Founders involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 1913. Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated in 1930.

Chapter History

Since our inception, we have been committed to enhancing the Greater Las Vegas communities through our networking and organizational skills. Our Charter Members, past officers and current members hold themselves to the highest moral and academic standards, and have welcomed the challenge of being young female leaders in the African-American community. Eta Chi chapter is committed to promoting, encouraging and participating in public service throughout local, national, and international communities. Our goal is to contribute to the advancements in education, health, political awareness, and social action for all people, with a special interest in the African-American community.

We endeavor to promote and attain scholastic achievement, social awareness, and sisterhood… not only in our Sorority, but also throughout our university and society as a whole. Our chapter remains a strong advocate for social responsibility and change. We regularly hold events that continue to exemplify the progressive vision of our 22 Illustrious Founders. The Eta Chi chapter participates in various community service and philanthropy projects throughout the year. Some programs have remained with the chapter and are considered our annual events and programs:

  • Fitzgerald Project
  • Pay Attention to My Wisdom
  • Delta G.E.M.S. Teen Uplift Club
  • Girl Talk
  • Sexy Rebel

The Eta Chi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, governed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, was the first Black fraternal organization on UNLV’s campus, and has held a significant position within the campus community since 1970.
